Our Le Jardin Academy x ALOHA Collection collaboration boasts artwork by class of 2021 alumna and distinguished DP Art graduate, Malia Anderson. This creation pays homage to Kahanaiki and the larger Kawainui Marsh—a natural extension of LJA's campus where students engage actively in restorative efforts, reintroducing native species to the wetlands to revitalize the local ecosystem. Embracing the principle of hana pono, which centers around doing good work, the bag features indigenous and endemic flora of Kahanaiki. Among these are kou, palapalai, alahe‘e, ‘ākia, naupaka kahakai, and kupukupu—each symbolizing LJA’s commitment to nurturing the native life that thrives within the Kawainui wetland.
Beyond its elegant fashion statement; it’s a narrative of collective impact and environmental stewardship. The design’s background, depicting the flowing waters of Kahanaiki, mirrors the life-giving stream that meanders from Maunawili to Kawainui, symbolizing the fluid connection between the community and nature. In owning this bag, one carries a piece of LJA’s spirit and commitment to caring for its environment and community through the good works of us all.
About the artist: Malia Anderson ‘21 is a Le Jardin Academy alumna and standout DP Art graduate currently attending Savannah College Art and Design. Following graduation, she aspires to be a surface designer in the print and pattern industry.
